Legora CEO on $550M funding: advancing legal AI at an $8.8B valuation

Legal AI company Legora has completed a $550 million Series E funding round led by Atreides Management, reaching a valuation of $8.8 billion. CEO Max Junestrand said the company does not build its own general legal model, but instead routes tasks to the most suitable frontier models, performing post-training only in narrow scenarios. It currently has more than 2,400 customers and over $200 million in annual recurring revenue. The funds will be used to advance Legora aOS, an agent operating system for legal work, enabling agents to take on complete tasks such as due diligence and e-discovery.

Action State Launches Open Source Tool to Verify AI Agent Interaction Records

Action State Group has released an open source toolset for enterprises to independently verify records of AI agent behavior, including EvidenceBook, which preserves tamper-proof records, Terms Packs, which evaluate agent behavior, and Countersign, an independent verification service. EvidenceBook is released under the Apache 2.0 license and uses a signed Agent Action Capsules format and cryptographic checkpoints; verification can be performed offline and is free. Founder Steven Mih said the tool can verify that reported events actually occurred, but cannot confirm whether agreements were fulfilled, and Countersign does not certify the authenticity of results or the integrity of evidence.

Musk's merger dream is a nightmare for SpaceX shareholders

SpaceX and Tesla have each established special committees composed of independent directors to explore a merger between the two companies; after the news was announced, Tesla's stock rose 3.4% and SpaceX rose 7.8%, adding $155 billion in market value. At a 30% premium, SpaceX would need to pay about $1.98 trillion to acquire Tesla and issue new shares equivalent to 92% of its existing share capital, increasing its shares from 13.1 billion to 25 billion. Tesla's GAAP net profit over the past four quarters was only $3.28 billion, while SpaceX lost $1.5 billion over the same period; after the merger, SpaceX shareholders would give up nearly half of future earnings.

Meta Platforms' third-quarter revenue and net profit grew substantially, with net profit increasing more than twofold, daily active users reaching 3.64 billion, and headcount down 15% year-over-year. A New Mexico court found Facebook engaged in systematic deceptive practices and sentenced Meta Platforms to a $2.5 billion fine. AfD was hacked, with over 400,000 emails and 50,000 documents leaked; whether the party has reported to data protection authorities remains unclear.

India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting asks TV channels to limit AI to "auxiliary uses," does not clarify whether AI anchors are prohibited

India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) issued an advisory on October 21 requiring private satellite television channels to restrict the use of AI and generative AI to "auxiliary uses," and listed "virtual news anchoring" as a scenario requiring caution, but did not define what constitutes auxiliary use, nor did it clarify whether it covers the AI anchors used by channels such as Aaj Tak, News18 and Odisha TV. The advisory did not require channels to label AI anchors, nor did it cite specific provisions of the Programme Code; Doordarshan, which is under MIB, itself also uses AI anchors, and in March this year told a parliamentary committee that it hoped to expand their use.

How AWS PrivateLink Lets Amazon Quick Securely Access Data from Enterprise Intranets

AWS has released a solution that uses AWS PrivateLink VPC endpoints and VPC connections to let Amazon Quick access on-premises data sources behind enterprise firewalls without traversing the public internet. User and API traffic goes through VPC endpoints, while data retrieval traffic goes through VPC connections, with security groups and endpoint policies layered on for defense in depth. VPC connections require an Amazon Quick Enterprise subscription, and Quick website VPC endpoints are not supported in AWS China Regions or the AWS GovCloud (US) Region.

Microsoft Research proves the 31-year-old unsolved KLS conjecture

Microsoft Research researcher Xinzhi Zhang and co-authors proved the KLS conjecture proposed in 1995, giving a dimension-independent fixed bound; the previous best result only allowed the bound to grow slowly with dimension. The proof came from a human-guided agent search process, in which the team explored more than 100 candidate paths, with researchers evaluating, pruning, and redirecting them; an independent team also gave a complete proof at the same time, followed by Lean 4 formal verification. The authors say earlier unguided end-to-end attempts with multiple frontier models failed to achieve the goal.

Baseten's Base Labs releases two decision models, elephant-1 (9B) and mammoth-1 (27B), both fully fine-tuned from Qwen3.5, with model weights publicly released. mammoth-1 ranks first among 208 models on the Jev Decision Index 0.4 with a score of 71.24, leading the second-place Perplexity Decider v1.2 by 1.8 points; elephant-1 scores 62.65 on that leaderboard and ties for first with d1-ultra on the Artificial Analysis Decision Index with a score of 65. Training used the eighth version of the data mixture with 6.21M samples, and replaced the full-attention layers with a block bidirectional attention mask; under fixed data, this change raised the public 10k-sample score from 44.8 to 48.6.

Inception has released the diffusion language model Mercury 3, claiming it wins 8 of 12 benchmarks and runs four to eight times faster than GPT-6 Luna and Claude Haiku 5.5. In Inception's own testing, Mercury 3 scored 76.84 on IFBench, 15 points higher than GPT-6 Luna; it scored 51.08 on SWE-Bench Atlas, versus 33.33 and 32.26 for its competitors. Claude Haiku 5.5 led on the DeepSWE long-code test and long-text retrieval. The model generates 1,068 tokens per second on Nvidia GPUs, is priced at $0.20 per million input tokens and $0.70 per million output tokens, with a 50% discount during the launch period, and is now available on the Inception platform as well as OpenRouter, Baseten, and Vercel; there are currently no independent tests.

Microsoft proposes using Guardian Agents to supervise enterprise AI agents

Hayete Gallot, Executive Vice President of Microsoft's security division, proposed in a blog post deploying Guardian Agents to monitor and intervene before AI agents execute actions, and stated that frontier models cannot be trusted regardless of their origin. The plan intends to bring enterprise agents under centralized management, assigning each agent an identity, container, and permission policy, then combining identity, data, cloud, endpoint, network, and runtime signals to assess risk in real time, with red team and blue team agents intervening when risk rises. The plan will be implemented on the basis of Microsoft's Project Perception security system announced in July.
