Since August, three major tech companies—Tencent, Baidu, and Alibaba—have all stepped up their efforts in office AI Agents, and the entry of new products along with intensive iterations have further heated up competition in the sector.
Among them, WorkBuddy was the first to see its monthly active users exceed 10 million, while the month-over-month growth rates of Baidu Dazi and Qianwen Office both exceeded 200%. In contrast, products that entered this sector earlier are facing user attrition; for example, ByteDance's Coze and iFlytek's Tingjian saw their monthly active users decline by 9.0% and 8.7% month-over-month, respectively.
However, judging by usage duration and frequency, some new players have yet to build user stickiness, and whether office AI Agents can sustainably become part of users' workflows remains to be seen.
Overall, the AI application market continues to diverge, with the gaps between different tiers becoming even more distinct. In August, among the top ten AI applications by monthly active users, six saw month-over-month declines, with Yuanbao and Jimeng AI having declined for two consecutive months. How to maintain growth on a relatively high user base has become a common challenge for the leading tier.
The AI Application Market Monthly Report is jointly released by the Beijing News AI Research Institute, Jingsuan π, and Xsignal. Combining indicators such as monthly active users (MAU), market attention (all-media voice volume), and user stickiness, it continuously tracks the competitive landscape and development trends of the AI application market.
Major Tech Companies "Battle" in the Office Sector; Three Applications Make the List for the First Time
In terms of all-media voice volume, Qianwen, Jimeng AI, and Doubao continued to rank in the top three in August, with voice volumes of approximately 3.458 million, 2.605 million, and 2.590 million, respectively.
On the other hand, office AI Agents collectively appeared on the all-media voice volume ranking, bringing a new highlight to the month. Among them, WorkBuddy ranked 9th in voice volume, while Baidu Dazi and Qianwen Office ranked 15th and 19th, respectively.
This round of competition in office AI Agents began in July this year.
On July 20, Tencent adjusted the QClaw-related business and some teams to the department to which WorkBuddy belongs, concentrating resources on the office sector. This move fired the starting gun for this round of competition.
Alibaba and Baidu quickly joined the "battle." On August 3, Alibaba integrated three Agent products into Qianwen Office and launched public beta; the next day, Baidu was reported to have integrated the R&D personnel and resources related to its internal office agent dodo into Baidu Dazi.
As products and resources were successively integrated, the competition among major tech companies in the office AI sector shifted from separately testing the waters with multiple products to concentrating resources to compete for users. According to Xsignal data, as of the end of August 2026, the number of active users of AI applications in the office sector was 21.1504 million, up about 60% month-over-month from July and up about 242% cumulatively from 6.1919 million a year earlier.
At the end of August, Tencent WorkBuddy was the first to see its monthly active users break the 10 million mark, reaching 11.372 million, up 72.9% month-over-month; Baidu Dazi also reached 7.879 million monthly active users, ranking second in the sector, up 203.7% month-over-month; Qianwen Office had 1.217 million monthly active users, up 298.2% month-over-month, the highest growth rate among the five leading products.
AI applications that entered this sector earlier are beginning to face more intense competition for users, with some products seeing MAU declines. For example, ByteDance's Coze had 4.492 million monthly active users, down 9.0% month-over-month; iFlytek's Tingjian had 1.400 million monthly active users, down 8.7% month-over-month.
However, judging by user usage habits, some "new players" have yet to build user stickiness.
Xsignal data shows that WorkBuddy's average monthly usage duration per user was 20.2 minutes and average usage frequency 19.5 times, both significantly higher than those of Baidu Dazi and Qianwen Office. The corresponding indicators for Baidu Dazi were 2.5 minutes and 4.7 times, while those for Qianwen Office were 9.1 minutes and 5.2 times.
By comparison, although ByteDance Coze's monthly active user scale declined in August, its average monthly usage duration per user reached 29.1 minutes and average usage frequency 20.1 times, both the highest among the five leading applications; Tingjian's average monthly usage duration per user also reached 25.9 minutes, higher than the other three applications.
Top-Tier MAU Trends Diverge; Doubao Widens Its Lead
Among the top 10 AI applications by MAU in August, four grew month-over-month and six declined; the top four remained Doubao, Quark, Qianwen, and DeepSeek, together forming the 100-million-level MAU camp; fifth-ranked Tencent Yuanbao's MAU had fallen back to 67.875 million.
Among them, Doubao continued to widen its lead, with MAU reaching 553 million in August, up 4.60% month-over-month; its MAU gap with second-ranked Quark also widened from about 337 million in July to about 357 million.
Quark and DeepSeek rebounded after declining in July, though neither returned to June levels, with DeepSeek still 14.11% lower than in June.
In addition, although Qianwen topped the voice volume ranking, its MAU remained lower than those of Doubao and Quark, standing at 174.672 million in August, down 1.35% month-over-month.
Among the other leading products, Wenxin Assistant and Kimi saw relatively large pullbacks after rising in July, declining 29.95% and 17.60% month-over-month, respectively. But looking at the period from June to August, their August MAU was still 11.92% and 33.52% higher than in June, respectively, meaning the July gains had not been fully given back.
Yuanbao and Jimeng AI, meanwhile, have declined for two consecutive months. At the end of August, Yuanbao's MAU fell 7.8% month-over-month, and Jimeng AI fell 7.4% month-over-month. Compared with June, the two declined 13.9% and 28.5%, respectively. As of the end of August, the leading camp of the AI application market showed further tier differentiation.
