Error-Riddled AI Fan Wikis Are Muddying an Already Controversial Gaming Culture

A Eurogamer investigation found that a batch of game fan wikis mass-produced by generative AI are full of misinformation such as fabricated companions and skills, and are crowding search results, drawing players away from legitimate wikis. Publisher Hooded Horse said it has had to deal with such sites like whack-a-mole; one of them, GameDB, covers more than 20 games and its creator admitted to using generative AI to make it. Independent wiki editors said that after being misled, players simply stop trusting wikis, and the reputation of legitimate volunteer wikis is thus damaged.
