1Password launches 1Password for Agents, letting personal AI agents log in without touching passwords
1Password has released 1Password for Agents, a login platform for personal AI agents, in which agents do not see passwords when logging in. In the flow, an agent identifies itself to 1Password via a unique digital key; after the user confirms on their own device which account is to be accessed and for what purpose, 1Password itself fills the password into the page. OpenAI has already integrated ChatGPT Work and the always-on Dots agent; Meta's Muse, SpaceXSI's Grok Bot and Town.com have also signed on, and Anthropic's Claude Duet will be integrated later; another 9 companies are developing integrations, including Perplexity and Browserbase.

Identity security company 1Password today launched 1Password for Agents, its new sign-in platform for personal artificial intelligence agents.
Agents from Meta Platforms Inc., Anthropic PBC, OpenAI Group PBC and Elon Musk’s SpaceXSI will be able to log in to people’s accounts through it without ever seeing the password.
1Password for Agents is aimed at a habit that took hold once agents started paying bills and planning vacations for people. Most of those jobs mean getting into an account. The easy route has been to paste the password into the agent’s chat window, which leaves a copy saved somewhere outside the owner’s control.
Aashish Tripathi, chief product officer at 1Password, said agents are “starting to do real work on our behalf.” In his view, an agent asked to do one task has no reason to walk away with permanent access to the whole account.
Under the new setup, the password never travels to the agent at all. A unique digital key identifies the agent to 1Password when it hits a login page, and the request that follows tells the person which account is wanted and for what. Nothing goes ahead until the person approves it on their own device, at which point 1Password types the password into the page itself.
OpenAI has connected ChatGPT Work and its always-on Dots agents to 1Password, and Meta’s Muse requests logins from 1Password whenever the integration is switched on. Work assistant startup Town.com Inc., which raised $108 million this week, has signed up too. With 1Password connected, SpaceXSI’s Grok Bot can sign in without anyone pasting a password into it, according to head of product Tido Carriero.
Claude has worked with 1Password in the browser since July. Anthropic’s Claude Duet agent, released Wednesday, comes next. Duet asks before signing in anywhere, and Anthropic Chief Product Officer Ami Vora said 1Password will “soon” fill in those sign-ins using passwords people have already set up. Anthropic wants that kind of help within reach of people “who’ve never before let an agent near their accounts,” she said.
Beyond the launch partners, nine more companies are building their own integrations. Perplexity AI Inc. and Browserbase Inc. are on that list, and their browser-based agents have been connected to 1Password since late 2025.
Canva Pty Ltd. and Stripe Inc. are among more than 200,000 businesses that use 1Password. The company did not say when each partner integration will reach users.
The launch follows an argument for tying agent access to individual tasks that 1Password Chief Technology Officer Nancy Wang made last month at Okta Inc.’s Oktane conference. Speaking with theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, she described an agent as “probably both” machine and human. Under task-based access, an agent should have to “prove that it actually finished its last task with the right level of permissions” before it gets more, Wang said.
