Microsoft MAI-Image-2.7-Preview ranks second on AA-Image-Editing v2.1
Microsoft AI has released the image editing model MAI-Image-2.7-Preview, which ranks second on Artificial Analysis's AA-Image-Editing v2.1 leaderboard, behind only OpenAI's GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst (max). The model outperforms MAI-Image-2.6 on all 7 evaluated editing actions, with the largest improvement in composition and framing (+57 Elo), followed by text or symbol editing +49 and scene and style editing +48, and it ranks first in 4 categories: scene and style editing, text or symbol editing, reasoning-based editing, and enhancement and restoration. The model currently offers image editing only in the MAI Playground, with text-to-image functionality said to be coming soon.

This new model improves on MAI-Image-2.6 with the biggest gains in Composition & Framing (+57 Elo), Text or Symbol Edits (+49) and Scene & Style Edit (+48). We see its best use cases to be in Live-Action Film, Consumer and Frontier edits, where it ranks #1.
