HCLTech has launched an AI-powered operations offering for enterprise mainframe environments, combining specialised agents and conversational AI assistants for system administration, observability, optimisation and operational workflows.

The platform uses AI-enabled automation to support mainframe operations. The agents operate under human oversight. HCLTech said they would improve operational efficiency, accelerate issue resolution and enable more proactive system management.

Mainframes continue to underpin critical enterprise workloads, even as companies look to modernise legacy infrastructure. Mphasis, for instance, has been exploring the use of AI in legacy IT modernisation through its approach to AI-led legacy modernisation.

“Enterprises running mission-critical workloads on mainframes are under increasing pressure to modernise operations and drive greater efficiency, without compromising reliability or control,” said Rampal Singh, Senior Vice President and Global Business Head of Hybrid Cloud at HCLTech.

Singh said the launch combines HCLTech’s mainframe expertise with AI capabilities to simplify operations and reduce risk.

The offering also draws on HCLTech’s dedicated Mainframe Centre of Excellence. The company said the centre provides domain expertise, industry best practices and support for further development of the offering.

“Through our dedicated Mainframe Center of Excellence and AI innovation capabilities, we are embedding intelligent agents and operational intelligence directly into mainframe environments,” said Raghu Kidambi, Corporate Vice President and Head of AI Ecosystems at HCLTech.

Kidambi said the platform would help enterprises move from reactive to proactive mainframe management while maintaining security, resilience and governance.

HCLTech did not disclose customer deployments, supported mainframe platforms or quantified operational improvements for the offering.
