Google Search AI Mode ads expand to 10 new markets
After the initial US test, ads in Google Search's AI Mode are being added in 10 new markets: Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore, and US users will also see so-called "multi-turn ads" in follow-up questions. Google says research shows users are relatively receptive to ads in AI Mode, that click-through rates for sponsored and organic product listing items are already similar, and stresses that these ads do not affect Google AI's generated organic answers. By the end of the year it will also cover Brazil, Mexico and the UK, while a week ago OpenAI had just pushed ChatGPT ads into 26 new markets, totaling 89 countries.

Following an initial test in the US, the new AI Mode in Google Search is now showing ads in 10 additional markets. Google also said that US users will now see ads in follow-up queries, which the company is calling “multiturn ads.”
“Our research shows that people are comfortable with ads in AI Mode and find them highly relevant. In fact, click-through rates are already similar between sponsored and organic product list items within AI Mode,” Google said today.
The list of new countries where AI Mode in Google Search is now showing ads includes Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Singapore. More countries will follow before the end of the year, including Brazil, Mexico, and the UK.
Google’s announcement comes just a week after OpenAI brought ChatGPT Ads Free and Go users in 26 new markets, for a total of 89 countries. Just as in ChatGPT, ads in Google Search’s AI mode and AI Overviews are clearly labeled, and they can appear across follow-up questions. In a support page about ads in its AI-powered search experience, Google also emphasized that these new ads “do not influence the organic responses generated by Google AI.”
