AI summary

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said that driven by AI infrastructure demand, AWS's cloud computing capacity is essentially sold out through 2027, and a considerable portion of 2028 capacity has also been locked in advance. He noted that 2026 cloud compute capacity is fully booked, and that the company's announced 2026 capital expenditure plan is about $220 billion, adding that continuing to ramp up investment is not an inefficient use of funds. Jassy also said that some resources will be reserved for on-demand calls, the Bedrock inference service, and EC2.

IT Home, October 25 news: Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said on Friday local time that, driven by continuously rising demand for AI infrastructure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud computing capacity is essentially already sold out through 2027, and a large number of long-term compute orders are locked in through 2028.

This video podcast was hosted by Andreessen Horowitz co-founder Ben Horowitz and general partner Erik Torenberg. On the program, Jassy said demand for compute from AI labs and enterprise customers is unending, and Amazon has been doing its best to keep up.

Earlier this year, Amazon announced a capital expenditure plan of about $220 billion for 2026 (IT Home note: at current exchange rates, roughly RMB 1.47 trillion).

Jassy mentioned that since cloud compute capacity for 2026 is already fully booked, the company "could actually invest more, and continuing to ramp up is not an inefficient use of capital."

He said: "Compute capacity for 2027 is essentially sold out. We will reserve some resources for on-demand access, the Bedrock inference service, and EC2, but most of the large blocks of compute suitable for bulk purchasing have already been taken. A considerable portion of 2028 capacity has also been locked in ahead of time."

EC2 is AWS's cloud server service, used to host various applications; Bedrock lets customers call AI models to build generative AI applications.

Amazon is scheduled to release its third-quarter financial results on October 29 local time.
