Seoul Biosys Mass-Produces Rare-Earth-Free White-Light Micro LED, Cost Can Be Halved

Seoul Biosys has mass-produced third-generation optical semiconductors based on WICOP technology, which can emit white light without the need for rare-earth phosphors or packaging. The first product is a 25µm x 10µm Micro LED with a white-light-region luminous efficacy of about 100 lm/W, with a target of reaching 200 lm/W within two years. The company says that by reducing rare earths and packaging materials such as silicone resin, plastic, and lead frames, manufacturing costs can be reduced to half of current levels, and it will prioritize supplying major customers starting in the fourth quarter.
