[Caixin.com] Tech giants are betting on AI Agent products, with fierce competition in China around "office Agents" focused on work scenarios; in the United States, "personal Agents" such as Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots have emerged one after another, with user numbers surging.
Office Agents appear to target enterprise customers, but the goal is to expand from white-collar workers to a broader user base and everyday usage scenarios. WorkBuddy, launched by Tencent (00700.HK) in March this year, is one of the main office Agent products and is competing in the same track as ByteDance's "Doubao Work" and Alibaba's "Qwen Office," setting off an "AI office war."
On October 29, Dowson Tong, Senior Executive Vice President of Tencent Group and CEO of the Cloud and Smart Industries Group, described WorkBuddy as "the personal Agent of the office track," while Tencent's AI chatbot Yuanbao and the WeChat built-in Agent "Xiaowei" are also AI products serving consumer (C-end) users.
