Pico CSS Announces End of Maintenance, Repository Archived

The author of Pico CSS has announced that the project is no longer maintained; the GitHub repository was archived as read-only on October 4, 2026, and will no longer accept new issues, PRs, or release new versions. The author says AI can now generate lightweight, standalone, and accessible HTML on demand, diminishing the significance of minimal CSS frameworks; keeping up with the times would require switching to modern CSS and rewriting, which would be a different project. npm, the jsDelivr CDN, and picocss.com will remain online long-term, and the project remains under the MIT license and can be freely forked, but the name and logo are not covered by the MIT license.
