Apple adds Intelligent Assistant and other AI features to Pages, Keynote, and Numbers

AI summary

Apple has rolled out an AI update for its iWork suite—Pages, Keynote, and Numbers—adding an Intelligent Assistant, currently available as a beta in US English and requiring iOS 27 or later. The assistant can understand the current document and supports drafting content in natural language, adjusting tone, and generating slides, speaker notes, images, and shapes; in Numbers it can generate tables, offer chart suggestions, and help write formulas, and it can also retrieve the latest information and write it into documents. Keynote also adds an open file format, Interchange Format (.keyx), that can be imported and exported. After updating all iWork apps, the author had not yet seen the assistant and speculates that a server-side component may be awaiting activation.

Apple is rolling out AI-centric updates to its iWork suite—Pages, Keynote, Numbers—that include a brand new ‘Intelligent Assistant’ with powerful capabilities. Here’s what it can do.

Intelligent Assistant is available in beta in US English only, and requires iOS 27 or later.

Here’s what it can do in each of the iWork apps, per Apple’s release notes:

Get guidance on where to start, learn how to use advanced features, or try a suggestion to see what’s possible

Draft a section, adjust your tone, or generate images and shapes using natural language

Search for up-to-date information on a topic and incorporate it into your document

Keynote — Intelligent Assistant features

Build your story, add animations, and refine your slides with an assistant that understands your presentation

Get guidance on where to start, learn how to use advanced features, or try a suggestion to see what’s possible

Generate slides, presenter notes, images, and shapes using natural language

Search for up-to-date information on a topic and incorporate it into your slides

Numbers — Intelligent Assistant features

Uncover insights, build complex formulas, and visualize your data with an assistant that understands your spreadsheet

Get guidance on where to start, learn how to use advanced features, or try a suggestion to see what’s possible

Generate tables, get chart suggestions, and get help with formulas using natural language

Search for up-to-date information on a topic and incorporate it into your spreadsheet

Keynote will let you import and export presentations in a new Interchange Format (.keyx), which Apple says is an open file format that will make it easier to edit Keynote files in other apps.

I’ve updated all iWork apps and don’t yet see the Intelligent Assistant, but it’s possible there’s a server-side component that Apple will imminently activate.
