Meta AI chief Rohit Patel leaves to found startup building Microsoft Office alternative Ndoc
Rohit Patel, who spent eight years on AI research at Meta and served as head of its Superintelligence Lab, has left the company to found Ndoc, which is developing a native AI office suite aimed at replacing Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Ndoc integrates three modules—Stage, Narrative, and Model—into a single interface; documents can be exported as standalone .ndoc.html files that open in any browser, and Patel hopes to open-source the format.

According to reports, Patel has founded the company Ndoc, where he will develop a native AI office software aimed at replacing Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
The former Meta researcher hopes that Ndoc will not merely be an AI tool layered on top of existing workflows, but rather will change the fragmented state in which people use various tools. For example, people often have to switch back and forth among software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Tableau, and constantly copy and paste content into ChatGPT.
Ndoc's goal is to integrate all of the above workflows into a unified space, so that everyone can work easily.
It is understood that Ndoc integrates three main modules in the same interface. "Stage" is used to display key content, such as slides, dashboards, simulation results, and mini-apps; "Narrative" is used to present analytical content, numbered citations, generated charts, and explanations of the reasons behind the data; and "Model" is used to store the underlying datasets and Python scripts.
In actual use, users can upload datasets for Ndoc to analyze and, based on the results, write explanatory text. The software's broader goal is to "redefine the document"; its documents can be exported as standalone ".ndoc.html" files and then opened in all browsers. Patel hopes to open-source this format so that other developers can also use it.
