Strava Integrates with Google Gemini to Support Personalized Training Insights
This week, Strava announced that it is expanding its AI integration to Google Gemini, after previously connecting to Claude via MCP. Once connected, users can query their training data in natural language—for example, comparing this year's fastest 10K with their historical best, analyzing race performance mile by mile, combining temperature, humidity, and wind to assess how weather affected a long run, and viewing their longest streak records for each sport.

Strava expands AI integration to Gemini
A few months ago, fitness tracking platform Strava launched an integration with Claude using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing users to analyze their workout history and training performance through natural-language conversations with Anthropic’s AI assistant.
MCP is an open standard (created by Anthropic and later donated to the Linux Foundation’s Agentic AI Foundation) that allows AI assistants to connect to external apps and services to access information and perform tasks on behalf of users.
This week, Strava announced an expansion of its AI integrations, bringing similar capabilities to Google Gemini.
From the announcement:
Once connected, users can ask Gemini things such as:
“Am I getting faster at the same heart rate?” See what’s different in your volume, consistency, and mix of sports, without scrolling through months of activities.
“Can you give me a detailed analysis of how I performed in my last race?” Understand how your effort played out, mile by mile.
“How is my strength training impacting my running?”Synthesize trends across any sports you do on Strava.
And with our most recent update, users can also ask:
“What’s my fastest 10K this year vs. all time?” Compare your best efforts side by side, with the date and activity behind each, to see how far you’ve come and what’s still in reach.
“How much did the heat slow me down on Saturday’s long run?” Work out whether it was your legs or the forecast. The temperature, humidity, wind, and conditions from your activity are now part of the picture.
“How long is my longest running streak on Strava?” Check your current and longest streaks, by sport, and when your current one started, so you know where you stand before the day is over. Or ask, “How long is my run streak?”
