Cailian Press, October 22 (Editor: Ma Lan) — SpaceX is reportedly offering employees a pay raise as an incentive to encourage them to temporarily relocate to Memphis, USA, to help build the company's local data center. According to industry sources, SpaceX will give employees a 20% pay raise.

In an email sent in early October, SpaceX pointed out that the company needs leaders to guide teams and remove obstacles so that more supercomputers can come online. Participants do not need to currently be in management roles; those with construction experience are preferred, and enthusiasm is most important.

Employees participating in the program will work on-site for at least six weeks at the Colossus 1 and 2 data centers in Memphis and Southaven, Mississippi. During their service, participants will receive an additional allowance equivalent to 20% of their base salary or hourly wage and will be eligible for bonuses tied to the project's success.

This is not the first time SpaceX has adopted such a program. In 2022, SpaceX offered employees pay raises of 10% to 25% in exchange for temporarily relocating near the launch site for the launch of the giant Starship rocket. This is a customary practice for the company to shift employees and resources to key projects.

Golden Goose

At least since August, SpaceX has been offering a 20% salary supplement to some high-performing employees to encourage them to move to Memphis to work. The email stated that the program was originally scheduled to end on December 31, 2026, but may be extended.

This program reflects the importance SpaceX attaches to the Colossus data center. According to SpaceX's Q3 financial report released on Tuesday, AI revenue, including the computing power leasing business, has soared to more than $7 billion, accounting for nearly half of SpaceX's revenue for the quarter.

SpaceX CEO Musk also said that SpaceX is being courted by numerous companies hoping to rent its computing power. He also said he spends most of his time in Memphis to push the Colossus project toward its goal of adding 10 gigawatts of computing power by the end of 2027.

To cope with its aggressive expansion plans, SpaceX has also been adjusting the positions of executives and ordinary employees. Previously, the company appointed a former Starship project executive to lead the construction of Colossus in Memphis.
