[Caixin.com] On November 4, Tencent (00700.HK) released its new large language model Hunyuan Hy4, with "practicality" as its core principle, and will open-source the model weights in the near future.

Since Tencent rebuilt its AI infrastructure in February, the Hunyuan large model has iterated a major version on average every two months, first opening it in Preview form and then releasing an optimized official version. Hunyuan's last release of a new version was Hy4 Preview on August 28; this new model release comes during a gap in version updates among domestic large models.

Hunyuan has repeatedly expanded its parameter and data scale: the Hy3 series had fewer than 300B parameters, while the Hy4 series has 770B. Tencent says the scale of the next version, Hy5, will be further expanded. The Hunyuan team calls itself "Hy4 is currently one of the strongest open-source models," but also acknowledges that a large gap still exists between Hy4 and top closed-source models: "Hunyuan will continue to steadily expand the scale of pre-training and post-training, striving to narrow the gap with top closed-source models."
