In the era of human-machine symbiosis, how journalism and communication education should be transformed and what kind of talent should be cultivated have become questions of the times facing universities. On October 31, the forum "Journalism and Communication Education Reform and Talent Cultivation in the Intelligent Era" was held at Fudan University. As the forum's host and a leading center and innovation hub for journalism and communication education in China, the Fudan University School of Journalism released the "Fuxin Wucai" (5C·AI) talent cultivation framework for the intelligent era. According to Professor Zhou Baohua, Dean of the Fudan School of Journalism, the term "Wucai" (five colors) signifies that five core competencies each have their own roles yet are intertwined. Among them, the "5C" represent five core knowledge-competency dimensions of intelligent communication: Comprehend, Create, Compute, Critique, and Collaborate; behind them lie three core concepts: "rooted in the discipline, deeply integrating scenarios," "human-machine symbiosis, mutual promotion of evolution," and "people-oriented, upholding values." The new talent cultivation system adopts a dual-track structure of "focused cultivation and pervasive integration," forming a four-tier implementation structure: the university-level AI-BEST curriculum system as the foundation; intelligent communication focused cultivation programs as the core (including integrated undergraduate-graduate programs, "AI+Journalism" and "AI+Communication" dual-degree programs, and intelligent communication overseas dual-degree programs); school-wide pervasive courses as the middle layer; and on-campus intelligent communication teaching and research platforms (including laboratories, token resources and model tool infrastructure, a practical case platform, competitions, and research and training projects) as well as an off-campus industry-academia-research-application cooperation ecosystem (including teaching practice bases at media and AI companies and strategic cooperation with scientific AI research institutions) as support. At the forum, the Fudan University School of Journalism launched the "Lixing Space" journalism and communication practical teaching case-sharing platform. The platform focuses on four major directions—news reporting, intelligent communication, audiovisual imagery, and strategic communication—and brings together more than 20 course practice projects and more than 200 outstanding practical teaching cases, enabling teachers and students to hone professional skills in real cases and scenarios and achieve a connection "from the classroom to the field." The school also released an AI agent for journalism and communication students' career development. This AI tool, independently developed by a student team, directly addresses real pain points such as scattered job information and difficulty matching positions for students in the major, providing current students with personalized, round-the-clock career planning and employment guidance services. On the same day, the school also jointly established intelligent communication teaching and internship practice bases with leading intelligent communication institutions such as Alibaba Cloud, ByteDance Recruitment, Xiaohongshu, and Shibei Hi-Tech Group, bringing cutting-edge industry experience and real scenarios into talent cultivation, building an education ecosystem with deep integration of industry, academia, research, and application, allowing students to hone their skills in real industry environments and promoting resonance between talent cultivation and the development of the intelligent communication industry. The country's first "Middle School Media Education Development Community" was also established at the same time. This community is led by Fudan University and jointly initiated with eight key middle schools across the country. It will extend journalism and communication education and media literacy education to middle schools, connect the collaborative education chain between universities and secondary schools, and nourish the source for cultivating top-notch journalism and communication talent. The forum also featured five thematic sub-forums: "Opportunities and Challenges of Journalism and Communication Education in the Intelligent Era," "Curriculum System Construction and AI Empowerment for Journalism and Communication Studies in the Intelligent Era," "Theoretical Innovation and Model Exploration of Talent Cultivation in the Intelligent Era," "Practical Ability Cultivation in Journalism and Communication Education in the Intelligent Era," and "University-Middle School Connection and Collaborative Education in Journalism and Communication Education."
