Pompliano: Hiring big-company people based on their résumés is like a car crash
Anthony Pompliano said on Peter Yang's podcast that hiring people from big companies with impressive résumés is "like a car crash": they are used to abundant resources and risk-management-style bureaucratic processes, which are utterly incompatible with a team environment where "you have an idea at 9 and it needs to ship by 10:30." He is currently the founder of Silvia, an AI CFO product for independent investors.

Pomp and I had a great chat about: → How he built his extraordinary career → How AI startups can build durable moats and compete with the top AI labs → How he hires AI-native talent Some quotes from Pomp: "I went to these big companies to hire people with great resumes. Every one of those people were amazing, but it was like a car wreck." "With financial questions, people are scared of being judged or don't want to come off as dumb. With AI, you can ask anything." “It was like a car wreck.”
Here’s @APompliano on what happened when he hired for credentials:
“We brought in somebody from [these big companies with great resumes] who is used to lots of resources. Everything is risk management...a big bureaucratic process.
And then you put them into an environment where people are like, we have an idea at 9:00, we’re trying to launch it by 10:30.
Those two things, it’s like oil and water... Those people are great at doing what they do in their environment. But that’s not our environment. That’s not our culture.”
