Waymo uses heaters and tiny windshield wipers to cope with ice and snow weather

Waymo describes how its autonomous vehicles handle winter conditions: built-in heaters and tiny windshield wipers can keep sensors clean in freezing conditions; the Waymo Driver can identify real-time changes in grip under each wheel and adjust steering, braking, and acceleration accordingly. Waymo also uses simulation testing to reproduce challenging road conditions such as black ice and whiteout weather, and when necessary slows down, restricts service, or suspends operations.
