Waymo Uses Heaters and Tiny Wipers to Cope with Ice and Snow

Waymo explains how its autonomous vehicles handle winter conditions: sensors have built-in heaters and tiny wipers to stay clean in icy conditions; the Waymo Driver can detect real-time changes in road grip and adjust steering, braking, and acceleration. Waymo also uses simulation testing to reproduce challenging road conditions such as black ice and whiteout weather, and slows down, limits service, or suspends operations when necessary.
