[Caixin.com] Unitree, which excels in humanoid robot hardware development, saw its stock price rebound sharply this week. On October 23, Unitree Technology (688836.SH) hit the daily limit; as of the close, the stock rose 20% to 624 yuan per share. Over the past week or so, Unitree's stock price has risen rapidly; on October 15, Unitree's stock price was still around 408 yuan per share.

Both technology and policy factors stimulated Unitree's stock price rise. Technologically, the market has long believed that Unitree excels in hardware development but is lacking in developing the robot 'brain.' Recently, however, the capabilities of general-purpose AI large models have improved, demonstrating the ability to directly control robots; the pressure on robot companies to develop 'brains' has been shared by general-purpose AI, and hardware capabilities have once again become a market focus.

At Unitree's Partner Ecosystem Conference on October 22, Wang Xingxing mentioned that general-purpose AI large models already show signs of 'breaking through' physical AI. Wang Xingxing showed a video of OpenAI's recently released GPT-6 Astra large model controlling a robot. Without any prior training, GPT-6 Astra directly 'took up' controlling the robot to paint. The robot could not only use a pen to make watercolor paintings, but also, when changing paint colors, autonomously clean the brush in a water bowl on the table.
