Xidian University Ultrafast Photonics Team Publishes LiDAR Chip Achievement Integrating Polarization Sensing and On-Chip Optical Computing in Nature Communications
The ultrafast photonics team at Xidian University has collaboratively integrated an optical phased array with a polarization-resolved optical neural network chip (PolarONN), enabling LiDAR to identify materials using echo polarization information while acquiring three-dimensional position, thereby achieving "four-dimensional sensing." The related results were published under the title "Optical phased array LiDAR chips towards polarization-resolved 4D sensing" in Nature Communications in September 2026. The team conducted multi-distance experiments using wood, stone, and steel, and demonstrated a point cloud of "X, D, U" letter targets composed of the three materials, assigning material categories to measurement points while reconstructing three-dimensional morphology.
