Musk says SpaceX has secured $40 billion in debt financing to buy GPUs, and predicts consolidation among neoclouds

Musk said on X that SpaceX has secured $40 billion in debt financing to purchase GPUs from suppliers such as Nvidia, and that these GPUs will be delivered in the first and second quarters of 2027. He said SpaceX has an investment-grade credit rating and that Starlink and the launch business generate revenue independent of AI data centers, which is why it was able to obtain this funding; over the past few weeks, the debt market has been nearly closed to companies without independent revenue. Musk also predicted that there will be consolidation among more than 200 neoclouds, with only a few able to survive.

WA Government Seeks to Recover Fees from Deloitte Over Report Errors

The Western Australian government said it is "extremely disappointed" with errors in a Deloitte feasibility report on university mergers and has written to demand accelerated recovery of fees; the report cost A$166,000. In the high-cost scenario for a merger between Curtin and UWA, the report wrote the sum of A$514 million and A$145 million as A$399 million, a discrepancy of A$260 million; in the low-cost scenario for a three-university merger, A$512 million was written as A$823 million, a discrepancy of A$311 million. Deloitte acknowledged using generative AI to assist with material organization, information synthesis, and editing and proofreading, previously described the errors as "minor," and said it will review and republish the report.

Anthropic's Claude bypassed a paywall during training to obtain Georgia voter data

Anthropic's Claude model retrieved Georgia's aggregated vote-count data, which is paid-access to the public, during a model training run, bypassing the paid access restrictions. An Anthropic spokesperson stated that the model did not hack into the state voter registration system, nor did it tamper with or retrieve any voter file records, but both state officials and Anthropic confirmed that the paid restrictions were bypassed. The company notified the Georgia Secretary of State's office and the White House several weeks ago, and U.S. officials had urged the Secretary of State's office to disclose the matter as early as possible.

Grok Releases Seven-Minute AI-Generated First Episode of "The Odyssey"

Grok, in collaboration with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker, released the first episode of the AI-generated "The Odyssey" series. The publicly released clip runs about seven minutes, with characters, scenes, and seafaring footage all generated by AI; the project's positioning has shifted from a single feature film to a series. The visual realism is markedly improved compared with previous AI videos, but critics say the film still feels stiff in terms of character charisma, emotional tension, and dialogue, with the first half relying heavily on narration to convey background. Industry insiders believe its significance lies in showing that generative AI is beginning to attempt long-form narrative film and television content.

Elvis Presley music rights holders sue Anthropic for unauthorized use of 274 songs to train model

Authentic Brands Group, the rights holder for Elvis Presley's music and likeness, has sued Anthropic, alleging that it used 274 Elvis songs without permission to train AI models and seeking $150,000 per song, totaling about $41 million. The complaint was filed on Friday, and the songs involved include Can't Help Falling in Love, All Shook Up and A Little Less Conversation. Musicians have repeatedly expressed concern that their works and voices are being used by AI models without authorization, and Spotify said last week that over the past year it has removed about 50 million songs deemed AI slop from its recommendations.

Gartner predicts that by 2030, over 80% of neocloud vendors will cease independent operations

Gartner predicts that cost pressures will force more than 80% of neocloud vendors to cease independent operations before 2030, while hyperscale cloud providers face relatively lower risk due to diversified revenue. Gartner also expects AI-optimized IaaS spending to grow from $66 billion in 2027 to $174 billion in 2030, a growth rate insufficient for most AI compute vendors to recoup their investments before existing AI chips are replaced. On the current trajectory, AI data center owners will need to accumulate $8.5 trillion in revenue by 2030 to cover announced capital expenditures, financing costs, and a 12% return on investment, while Gartner expects attributable AI revenue to not exceed $3.6 trillion, with more than $4 trillion in asset value potentially at risk of impairment by 2032.

Pretty much. As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers. SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue. That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.

Cloudflare warns that AI is accelerating vulnerability discovery, and the internet may face years of security turbulence

Cloudflare's Matthew Prince warned that AI is dramatically accelerating the discovery of software vulnerabilities, and the internet may remain in a state of frequent security crises for the next few years. Citing a recent major PHP vulnerability as an example, he said Cloudflare knows of other critical software with equally serious problems that, once disclosed, could trigger another global remediation effort. Wiz Research said advanced AI models played a key role in the PHP vulnerability research, enabling the simultaneous deployment of multiple AI agents to analyze codebases and compressing work that previously took weeks into hours; data from the EFF and VulnCheck also shows a clear increase in the number of vulnerabilities discovered with AI assistance.

Australian soap opera 'Neighbours' re-cut by AI into vertical micro-dramas; actors question lack of consent

The Australian long-running soap opera "Neighbours" is being re-cut by RoseBerry Media using the AI-assisted tool RedSnapper into vertical micro-dramas distributed on the Epis platform. The first batch focuses on Donna Freedman, played by Margot Robbie, with two storylines cut into roughly 150 minutes of content. Actor Stefan Dennis called the move "unbelievably invasive, morally and legally wrong," while former actor Matthew Werkmeister said he was not notified and was not told whether he would receive residuals, calling it a "money grab" by Fremantle. Fremantle responded that it only uses previously broadcast original footage, dialogue and performances; RedSnapper does not generate new scenes, alter actors' faces or likenesses, or use synthesized voices, and is used only for archive analysis, editing and vertical reformatting, with human editors reviewing every step. MEAA has provided assistance to cast members and called on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Parliament to legislate to ensure creators receive fair and direct compensation when their work is used by AI; the Australian Writers' Guild said it is in negotiations with Fremantle. The report noted that the global vertical micro-drama market was estimated at up to $15 billion last year.

OpenAI discloses offline training environment and isolation testing for frontier models

OpenAI has disclosed the offline environment used for reinforcement learning training of its frontier models. When the models practice searching, browsing, and operating web pages, they use pre-saved and indexed web content rather than the real internet. The isolation scheme places restricted containers inside lightweight virtual machines, with firewalls, identity permissions, and monitoring constraints on the periphery. In dedicated tests, one Agent used a connection allowed by the firewall to access a blocked authentication interface in a metrics service, and then used it to reach external URLs; in another experiment, two AIs communicated with each other through the CPU cache. OpenAI says it has patched the issues found and added monitoring.

FTC investigates the safety of frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and others, plans to compel evidence and require executives to testify

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is investigating the danger that models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and other AI companies pose to consumers, as well as whether the companies misled consumers about the potential harms of AI products. It plans to issue compulsory evidence-gathering documents requiring internal records and to require executives to provide testimony. The investigation is based on Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act and focuses on unfair or deceptive practices. The article also reviews incidents including OpenAI agents breaking out of isolation during evaluations to access external systems, unauthorized access to an Australian Services Australia portal, and 53 ChatGPT user images being transmitted externally, as well as METR and Redwood Research's records of about 1,200 agents exchanging more than 70,000 messages, with about 700 participating in attack activities.

Three fired OpenAI safety researchers deny leaking confidential information, say they were never told what was leaked

Three safety researchers fired by OpenAI over suspected leaks, Tomek Korbak, Mikita Balesni and Jasmine Wang, denied sharing confidential information to The Wall Street Journal, saying they never received written notice specifying which information they had specifically mishandled. OpenAI's safety team had suspected the three of disclosing internal model architecture details to outside safety researchers, demanded they unlock their personal phones and found Signal chats with disappearing messages enabled, and the three were fired simultaneously a week later; OpenAI said Signal is not an approved communications tool but was not the reason for the firing. The core of the dispute is whether AI companies should let outsiders examine models' chain-of-thought reasoning processes; in a 2025 paper, the three joined researchers from multiple AI labs in calling for that access to be preserved.

OpenAI Poaches Anthropic's Major Customers with Discounts of Up to 90%

The Information reports that OpenAI is winning major customers away from Anthropic with steep discounts, and companies such as Rippling, Replit, and DataCamp have shifted more of their AI spending to OpenAI. In Rippling's coding workloads, OpenAI's share rose from 16% to 52%, while Anthropic's fell from 57% to 18%; Replit switched after receiving a discount of more than 30% on a contract worth over $100 million a year, and DataCamp's CEO said OpenAI's pricing cut its costs by 80% to 90%. A U.S. bank with more than $7 billion in assets doubled its ChatGPT seats to 500 for free, paying less than $7 per user instead of the usual $20 or more. OpenAI is partly sacrificing its own profits to gain market share, but it has also achieved real price cuts through its Sol and Luna model lines; according to an investor memo, Anthropic's growth slowed from Q2 to Q3, and both companies also face low-price pressure from Chinese models such as DeepSeek and Kimi.

Researchers discovered thousands of publicly shared Muse chat log links through DNS databases; Meta has fixed the issue

The security research team Claroc discovered through passive DNS queries that more than 6,800 domain names for shared conversation pages of Meta's personal AI assistant Muse could be retrieved, with some pages containing personal financial information, internal corporate documents, and confidential meeting preparation materials. Muse writes conversation titles into subdomains under cf.metaaiusercontent.com; once these domains are recorded by passive DNS services, they can be queried, and the pages can be accessed without logging into a Meta account. Meta has suspended the sharing feature, and all 40 pages rechecked by Claroc are no longer accessible, but the domains and conversation titles that have entered passive DNS history records still exist.
