Bloomberg says Schmidt holds about 1% stake in Anthropic

According to Bloomberg, former Google CEO Schmidt participated in Anthropic's Series A funding round in 2021, investing tens of millions of dollars, and currently holds about 1% of the company. The report says this proportion is about half of the 2% held by co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei; Anthropic is widely expected to go public before the end of the year, with a maximum valuation expectation of $2 trillion, at which point the value of Schmidt's stake could increase by as much as $20 billion. Neither Schmidt nor Anthropic immediately responded to requests for comment.

Anthropic proposes draft AI safety bill that would block model releases when risk of 50+ deaths exists

Anthropic has pitched a draft AI safety bill to Congress that would allow a model's release to be blocked when it poses a foreseeable, imminent risk that could cause 50 or more deaths or more than $1 billion in property damage. The risk must stem from the manufacture of bioweapons, the model evading its developer's control, or cyberattacks. The draft requires an independent evaluator registered with the U.S. Department of Commerce to determine the risk; the evaluator must report within 72 hours, after which the Commerce Department would apply to a Washington, D.C., judge for an order to halt the release. Federal agencies would not be allowed to decide on blocking a release themselves.

OpenAI advances roughly $30 billion funding round, aiming to lock in investors ahead of Anthropic's IPO

According to Reuters, OpenAI is accelerating a roughly $30 billion funding round, targeting a valuation above $1.4 trillion, seeking to lock in investors before Anthropic's expected mid-November IPO; existing investors including SoftBank and Abu Dhabi's MGX are in talks to participate. OpenAI told investors that growth accelerated after the release of GPT-6 Astra, with annualized revenue already at $50 billion and expected to rise to $70 billion by year-end; Anthropic said its third-quarter revenue rose from $11.6 billion to $16.8 billion, but slowing month-over-month growth has raised valuation concerns. The two also differ on revenue recognition: OpenAI recognizes revenue on a net basis and has accused Anthropic of recognizing revenue on a gross basis under third-party cloud vendor contracts.

An Anthropic engineer shares Claude Code multi-agent orchestration approach

In a 30-minute workshop, an Anthropic engineer described his setup for running more than 100 agents simultaneously with Claude Code: one main agent is set up, and sub-agents act as project managers to assign tasks. Based on this, the author suggests shifting one's role from editing code line by line to first writing task breakdowns and acceptance rules, then spawning sub-agents to execute concurrently. At the same time, the author warns that if the main agent's termination conditions and permission boundaries are not hard-coded, it is easy to fall into an infinite loop and drive up token costs. Beginners can start small with one main agent and three sub-agents.

METR reviews the misalignment risk chapter of Anthropic's August 2026 risk report

METR conducted an external review of the "Misalignment in high-risk scenarios" chapter in the August 2026 edition of Anthropic's risk report. It agreed that the catastrophic misalignment risk of the covered models (including Mythos 5 and the internal model Model 2) is low, but held that this is mainly due to limited model capabilities rather than safeguards and alignment training. METR pointed out that the covert capability benchmark in the report cannot represent a model's ability to evade Anthropic's internal monitoring systems, and stated that recent events weaken the report's argument that unknown severe situational misalignment is "unlikely." METR also recommended disclosing four redacted pieces of information and conducting end-to-end red-team testing of the monitoring system.
