China approves Apple iPhone access to Alibaba Qwen and other AI models

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has approved Apple to integrate Alibaba AI models on multiple iPhone models including the iPhone Duo, covering Apple Intelligence as well as Tongyi Qianwen (Qwen) and Tongyi Wanxiang. This means Chinese iPhone users can expect image generation and AI chat capabilities similar to other markets. Apple previously obtained regulatory approval in July to provide Apple Intelligence in China, but it has not yet officially launched; the iPhone Duo will begin pre-orders on October 16 in 70 countries including China.
