Neuralink Connects Grok to the Brain: ALS Patient Controls AI and Makes a Phone Call With His Thoughts

Neuralink has announced its latest progress: Kenneth, a patient with ALS, silently thinks "Hey Neuralink" and states a task in his mind, which wakes up the Grok Agent on his computer to autonomously carry out operations. The team conducted a 72-hour development sprint at the participant's home, producing 8 technical prototypes, including neural voice activity detection that requires no manual switch, a system-level brain-computer input method called BCI Keyboard Dictation, and a mobile app called Bloom. Kenneth also connected speech decoded by the brain-computer interface to the iPhone call audio stream, and after seven years, made a phone call to his wife using his thoughts.

Neuralink Subject Uses Thoughts to Wake Grok Agent and Control Computer

During a 72-hour hackathon, the Neuralink team developed 8 functional prototypes for P21 subject Kenneth, including the ability to silently think "Hey Neuralink" in his mind and think through a task to trigger the Grok agent to operate the computer autonomously. The team also rewrote the neural voice activity detection system to achieve pure thought-based speech decoding without button presses, and routed the decoded speech into the iPhone call microphone audio stream, enabling this ALS patient to call his wife using only his thoughts. In addition, the dedicated app Bloom supports placing orders by thought in a café, and a system-level brain-computer input method allows text entry in any app.

Google adjusts its cloud business strategy, selling TPUs externally through partners such as Oracle

Alphabet announced that Oracle will offer Google's TPUs, marking the first time customers can use TPUs outside of Google's infrastructure. Anthropic Pursues IPO Under Public Benefit Corporation Structure, Lawyers and Analysts Flag Investor Risks

CNBC reports that Anthropic plans to list at a valuation of $1.5 trillion or higher, and its public benefit corporation (PBC) structure requires the board to balance public interest with shareholder returns. Lawrence Hamermesh, a Delaware corporate lawyer, noted that PBC law defines the word "balance" vaguely, and that directors' defenses citing the pursuit of public benefit purposes would make accountability harder. Evercore ISI analyst Mark Mahaney said that an independent trust electing a majority of directors, and seven co-founders holding 50.1% of voting power through a single Class F share, will limit shareholders' influence over the company's operations.

ServiceNow stock plunges 27% after earnings, worst single-day performance since its IPO

ServiceNow shares fell 27% on Thursday, marking the worst single-day performance on record, after the company's third-quarter results fell short of expectations, reigniting market fears about AI disruption. Revenue for the quarter rose more than 20% year over year to $4.11 billion, roughly in line with LSEG analysts' expectation of $4.10 billion, but adjusted earnings per share of $1.00 came in below the $1.02 expected. Although the company slightly raised its full-year 2026 subscription revenue forecast to $15.78 billion to $15.79 billion, with net new AI average contract value growing 65%, Citi analyst Tyler Radke noted that the investment in its newly formed forward-deployed engineering team has yet to deliver immediate returns, and the market will have to wait until next year to see an inflection point.

Nvidia Responds to New York Times Report: People Close to Jensen Huang Suspected of Being Chinese Intelligence Assets; Chip Transshipment Allegations Were Investigated and Clarified Last Year

An Nvidia spokesperson said that Alice Huang, whom The New York Times described as being close to Jensen Huang and suspected by U.S. intelligence agencies of being a Chinese intelligence asset, is associated with the Singapore-based cloud service provider Megaspeed, and that Megaspeed is merely a regional cloud customer of Nvidia; it is normal for Jensen Huang to communicate with thousands of customers each year. The spokesperson said that allegations that Megaspeed evaded export controls were thoroughly investigated and clarified last year, and that customers cannot access Nvidia's trade secrets or related national security information. Nvidia also said that if the U.S. government believes anyone poses a threat to American industry, it will inform the company.

Peter Yang agrees with Musk: vibes matter more than benchmarks

Elon Musk said that the release of Grok 4.8 has taken longer than expected, but it will not disappoint, and stated that the team is not optimizing for benchmarks and that he personally does not care how Grok performs on those tests, emphasizing only that it "will be incredibly useful." Peter Yang reposted and commented: "True, vibes > benchmarks".

@techdevnotes I know it’s taken longer than expected, but Grok 4.8 will not be a disappointment. We’re not optimizing for benchmarks and I really don’t care how Grok does on those, but it will be incredibly useful.

Musk responds with "True" to Levie's take on the AI gap

Aaron Levie posted that the gap between those currently using AI at the frontier and everyone else is almost incomprehensible, and that this gap curve is not converging but instead continuously widening; the AI progress curve is nearly vertical, and processes solidified 3-6 months ago may already be outdated. Elon Musk quoted the post and replied with just one word: "True".

It’s almost incomprehensible how wide the distance is between someone who’s working at the frontier with AI and basically everyone else right now. The crazy thing is these lines are not converging, but only growing farther apart. If the curve of AI progress had leveled off, it would certainly have given most people and companies time to catch up or implement their workflows in a standardized way. The technology would have neutralized competitive advantage because everyone would be using it the same way. But what’s happened is the opposite. The curve of AI progress is basically going vertical right now, which means if you had codified your processes 3-6 months ago you’re likely already behind again. Now imagine most companies that kicked into gear a year ago and thought that they were done. Even further behind now. I’ve never seen a technology in my life and career that improves at this rate, which consequently means you need to upgrade your expectations at a similar rate. Our brains weren’t wired for this, and our organizational change management processes certainly weren’t either. With any form of recursive self improvement, things just get wilder. It’s a time when you will need to be constantly reevaluating the things that didn’t work just a couple months ago to see if they now can be solved. AI native companies certainly have a strong advantage due to this right now, so now it comes down to can the bigger companies keep up. Wild times.
