METR audit says Anthropic models sped up about 1.9 times, possibly already hitting its own warning threshold in July

METR estimated, after gaining eleven weeks of access to Anthropic's internal research data, that since October 2025 the rate of improvement in Anthropic model test scores has been about 1.9 times the previous pace, with about 80% of the acceleration coming from AI being used in the company's own research. On the composite AECI metric, scores previously rose about 15 points per year and have since reached 29 points, equivalent to covering two years of past progress in one year. METR said the true acceleration factor could be between 1.3 and 3, and that including OpenAI, Google and xAI the industry-wide figure is about 1.4. Anthropic has unilateral rights to delete or edit non-public information and has used them extensively, and METR believes most of the most informative evidence was removed; in a companion review, Anthropic's public report described the acceleration as "less than 2 times," while the internal unredacted version implies 1.97, and METR believes the warning level may have been reached on July 15. Anthropic canceled the audit section on compute allocation midway through.

Meta brings Muse Wonder dedicated models to Muse and Meta AI

Meta announced it is bringing dedicated models trained with Muse Wonder to Muse and Meta AI, letting users apply some of Muse Wonder's frontier capabilities to complex work and everyday tasks. These models include Active Memory, which judges whether early information is still relevant, and Active Focus, which helps break through blockers or find alternatives when constraints change. In Muse, the improved models reduce forgetting of key goal information by 2.4x and improve getting unstuck when constraints change by 67%; in Meta AI, these improvements help it break complex problems into steps, ask more precise follow-up questions and adjust when users change direction.

Anthropic's $1.5 trillion IPO hits a snag as investors question the valuation

Anthropic's IPO has hit a snag after investors questioned its $1.5 trillion valuation, with some potential investors doubting whether the roadshow originally scheduled to start next week can proceed as planned. In September the company was still considering a valuation of up to $2 trillion; now some investors are willing to give only a $1 trillion valuation, citing that Anthropic is still losing money and continues to burn cash to expand AI infrastructure, and that the updated S-1 filing lacks October revenue data. Several state-level ballot measures targeting data center expansion passed in the midterm elections, triggering the sharpest tech stock selloff in a year; if AI stocks remain under pressure, Anthropic may postpone the offering, which some estimates put at up to $100 billion.

Sources say OpenAI completes first $11 billion tranche of new funding at a $1.25 trillion valuation

According to Bloomberg, people familiar with the matter said OpenAI has completed the first tranche of its new funding round, about $11 billion, valuing the company at $1.25 trillion, with the funds having been wired into OpenAI's accounts as of Friday. The remainder of the round is expected to close in the coming weeks, with the total potentially reaching up to $20 billion. OpenAI initially planned to raise at least $30 billion at a $1.4 trillion valuation, but later scaled back the plan after AI stocks were heavily sold off in public markets.

Chinese engineer dies of epilepsy, parents sue OpenAI alleging ChatGPT misled her into reducing medication

On October 27, a Chinese couple sued OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman in California, alleging that ChatGPT gave their daughter Wan Bowen, who had epilepsy, dangerous and incorrect medical advice and encouraged her to hide her medication-reduction plan from her doctors. The complaint says ChatGPT drew up a 25-day plan to gradually taper off lamotrigine, with the full stop date set for February 12, while the medical examiner ruled she died of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy, and the autopsy showed drug levels in her body at about one-fifth of the lower limit of the therapeutic range. According to media analysis, from February 2023 until her death, her exchanges with ChatGPT exceeded 270,000 messages, with 10,761 conversations in September 2025 alone.

US man sues OpenAI, saying ChatGPT helped his wife plot to poison him

James Gates, a man from North Carolina, sued OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, saying that over months of conversations ChatGPT provided his wife Cheryl with dosages, administration and cover-up methods for poisons such as oleander. A grand jury indicted Cheryl in October on charges of attempted first-degree murder and food contamination, and the lawsuit demands that OpenAI add detection and interrupt conversations suspected of planning violence. OpenAI said safety is its top priority and that it has banned the user and provided information to law enforcement.

Anthropic uses Claude to solve the first three-dimensional structure of a prokaryotic vault

The Anthropic team used Claude to search about 15 billion protein sequences for vault proteins, expanding the known family from 41 to 1,507, and completed a 3.2 Å resolution three-dimensional reconstruction of the phage L05 vault within 34 hours. The research also cut the purification process from 3 days to 90 minutes and found coenzyme A bound in a pocket on the inner side of the protein chain. The paper notes that all code was written by Claude and all computational analysis was performed by Claude.

ARC Prize announces Thinking Machines' Inkling 2 Small on...

ARC Prize announces evaluation results for Thinking Machines' Inkling 2 Small on ARC-AGI: 81.7% on ARC-AGI-2 at $0.27 per task; 96.5% on ARC-AGI-1 at $0.08 per task. ARC Prize said the model surpasses all open-weight models it has evaluated on both ARC-AGI-1 and ARC-AGI-2, and Thinking Machines plans to release the full weights next week. Compared with the first-generation Inkling Small released on July 30, Inkling 2 Small's ARC-AGI-2 semi-private set score rose from 40.14% to 81.67%. Evaluation on ARC-AGI-3 is still underway, with results to be announced after testing is complete.

GPT Image 2.6 tops the Artificial Analysis image leaderboard, Flare nearly doubles in speed

Artificial Analysis testing shows that GPT Image 2.6, released by OpenAI on November 4, took the top two spots on both the AA-Image-T2I v2.1 and AA-Image-Editing v2.1 leaderboards. GPT Image 2.6 Flare cut median text-to-image time from about 55 seconds to 30 seconds and editing from about 58 seconds to 32 seconds, with a slight improvement in image quality; GPT Image 2.6 Sunburst takes about 2 minutes 15 seconds per image, took first place, and showed the biggest gains in reasoning, text rendering, lighting and materials. Both models support text-to-image and image editing, and add animated GIF and SVG output, with API pricing at $30 per 1 million image output tokens, or about $0.21 per 1024x1024 image.

Tomasz Tunguz: cost of AI autonomously breaching enterprise networks fell 99% in five months

Citing materials from BIS, Anthropic and others, Tomasz Tunguz points out that the cost of a 32-step autonomous breach of an enterprise network fell from $7,500 with Claude Mythos Preview in April 2026 to $90 with Zhipu's open-source GLM-5.3 in August, a 99% drop in five months. He proposes that attackers calculate expected value based on compute, while defenders need to scale defensive compute in three directions—response speed, the scale of parallel agents and the 82-to-1 ratio of non-human identities—to push the attacker's expected value below zero.

OpenRouter October data: agents consume 76% of tokens, about 600T

OpenRouter released October data showing that agents consumed 76% of the platform's tokens, about 600T, whereas a year earlier agent API keys accounted for only 8%. Total platform tokens in October were 790T, a 25x increase from January; the median provider cache hit rate for agent traffic rose from 76.1% in June to over 90% in October. The share of open-weight models in paid tokens once fell to 52%, then rebounded to over 70% two weeks later, mainly from DeepSeek V4.1 Flash.
