KT Cloud Breaks Ground on 50MW AI Data Center in Ansan

AI summary

On October 22, KT Cloud broke ground on its own 50MW AI data center in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. The facility has a total floor area of approximately 36,878 square meters, with 9 floors above ground and 2 below, and is scheduled for completion in 2029. All server rooms in the facility will support liquid cooling, and it will use a high-load structural design to accommodate Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin GPUs, while also introducing a free-cooling system to reduce cooling energy consumption. The project is part of its long-term strategy to secure 1GW of AI data center capacity by 2031.

KT Cloud is building a 50-megawatt (MW) artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. The company aims to expand AI data center capacity in the Seoul metropolitan area by securing the power and cooling infrastructure needed for high-performance graphics processing unit (GPU) servers.

KT Cloud said Oct. 22 it is breaking ground on the Ansan AI Data Center, a company-owned facility. The project is part of its long-term strategy to secure 1 gigawatt (GW) of AI data center capacity by 2031.

The Ansan AI Data Center will have a gross floor area of approximately 36,878 square meters, with two basement levels and nine above-ground floors. The facility will have a total incoming power capacity of 50MW and is scheduled for completion in 2029.

The data center will be equipped with power and cooling infrastructure for high-density AI servers. All server rooms will be designed to support liquid cooling. The project will add capacity for high-heat-generating AI servers following the opening of the Gasan AI Data Center in 2025.

The facility will also feature a high-load structural design to accommodate advanced equipment, including Nvidia’s next-generation Vera Rubin GPUs. The building structure is designed to support higher server densities and changes in equipment specifications.

KT Cloud will introduce a free-cooling system to improve cooling efficiency. The system will use cooling coils installed on the building’s upper exterior walls and connected to closed-circuit cooling towers. During spring, autumn and winter, when outdoor temperatures are lower, the company plans to use natural airflow to reduce electricity consumption by cooling tower fans and chillers.
