Doosan to Invest KRW 399.2 Billion in Gimje to Build CCL Production Line for AI Data Center Optical Modules
Doosan to Invest 399.2 Billion Won in Optical Module CCL Plant in Gimje
On October 27, Doosan signed an MOU with Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and Gimje City to invest KRW 399.2 billion at its Gimje plant to build a dedicated CCL production line for optical modules used in AI data centers, with phased production planned to begin in the second half of 2028. The new plant will cover approximately 33,000 square meters and is expected to create about 200 jobs; it is the first domestic expansion project to materialize under Doosan's roughly KRW 970 billion investment plan announced in September. Doosan currently supplies high-speed optical module CCL supporting 800Gbps transmission.

Doosan will expand its Gimje plant to build dedicated production lines for copper-clad laminates (CCL) used in optical modules for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. The project marks the first detailed domestic expansion plan under the company’s investment program of approximately 970 billion won announced in September.
Doosan said Oct. 27 it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Jeonbuk State and Gimje City to establish dedicated CCL production lines for optical modules. The signing ceremony, held at the provincial government office, was attended by Jeonbuk State Governor Lee Won-taek, Gimje Mayor Jung Sung-joo and Kim In-wook, head of Doosan’s Electronics Business Group (BG), among other officials.
Doosan will invest 399.2 billion won by 2028 to build the plant on a site adjacent to its flexible copper-clad laminate (FCCL) factory in the Gimje Jipyeongseon General Industrial Complex. The new facility will cover approximately 33,000 square meters and create about 200 jobs. The production lines are scheduled to begin phased operations in the second half of 2028.
The expansion is aimed at meeting growing demand for optical module CCL used in AI data centers. Optical modules are key components that convert electrical signals into optical signals between servers and networking equipment. CCL is an essential material for printed circuit boards (PCB). CCL used in optical modules must minimize signal loss during ultra-high-speed transmission.
Doosan supplies CCL for high-speed optical modules capable of transmitting data at 800 gigabits per second (Gbps). The company has established itself as a key partner to major optical module manufacturers.
“Demand for optical module CCL is growing rapidly as AI data centers expand, and this capacity expansion was decided based on the medium- to long-term demand of our major customers,” Kim said. “We will develop the Gimje plant into a key production hub for optical module CCL to ensure timely supply to our customers.”
