クレジットは、ChatGPTの契約と連携したAPI組織（APIの請求や権限を管理する単位）に付与される。テキスト処理、エージェントの実行、音声対話、画像生成・編集のAPI利用料に充てられる。Web検索などの組み込みツールも対象となる。ただし、APIキー経由のCodex利用には使えず、ChatGPTやログインして使うCodexの利用上限も増えない。
このクレジットは、API用の支払い方法を登録しなくても利用できる。無料分を使い切った後は、購入済みのAPIクレジットが残っていれば、そちらが使われる。どちらの残高もなければ、APIの呼び出しはエラーになる。APIクレジットの追加購入には、ChatGPTの契約料金とは別に費用がかかる。[2]

手続きを行うProの契約者本人またはBusinessワークスペースの所有者は、受取先のAPI組織でも所有者であり、請求を管理する権限を持つ必要がある。
ChatGPTとAPIアカウントで同じメールアドレスを使い、ChatGPTの請求設定またはAPIの管理サイトであるAPI Platformの請求画面から手続きを進める。受取先のAPI組織を選んで特典を有効化し、付与結果をAPI組織の請求画面で確認する。[1]
