Release of the new-generation cloud instance: Intel Xeon 6+ processors land in the cloud

Intel's cooperation with Tencent Cloud has always moved forward in step with changes in cloud workloads. From S9 and S9e to S9pro, Tencent Cloud has expanded its cloud instance matrix based on Intel Xeon 6 processors, providing flexible and efficient elastic computing power for diverse businesses with different combinations of performance and cost. Today, the rise of agentic AI further tests infrastructure's capabilities in concurrent scheduling, latency response, and reliable isolation. Facing the requirements of the entirely new agentic AI workloads, Intel and Tencent Cloud officially launched a new-generation cloud instance equipped with Intel Xeon 6+ processors, further expanding Tencent Cloud's product capabilities for agentic AI workloads.

Tencent Cloud's new-generation cloud instance based on Intel Xeon 6+ processors officially released

The all-new Xeon 6+ processors provide excellent computing resources for agentic AI. With up to 288 efficiency cores, a single processor can support the stable deployment of more than 1,000 agents, which also provides Tencent Cloud servers with cloud computing services featuring higher concurrency, lower latency, and better energy efficiency.

Supported by the excellent performance of Xeon 6+, the comprehensive performance of Tencent Cloud's new-generation cloud instance is more than 30% higher than the previous generation¹, making it suitable for scenarios such as cloud-native microservices, high-concurrency Web, and agentic task orchestration. It is worth mentioning that the new-generation cloud instance introduces Intel® TDX (Trust Domain Extensions), which, through hardware-level isolation and attestation, builds a full-lifecycle trusted defense line of "data usable but not visible" for agents.

These measured data verify the practical value of Intel Xeon 6+ processors in agentic AI workloads. However, the evolution of Xeon does not stop there. For the next stage of higher-density task scheduling and concurrent computing, Intel will launch Xeon processors (codenamed Diamond Rapids) designed specifically for next-generation agentic AI infrastructure, achieving a leap in throughput for multi-task, high-load operations.

For agentic AI to achieve scale, every link must withstand the test of high density and high concurrency. For example, limited memory must carry more tasks, KV Cache must flow, compress, and be scheduled efficiently across different tiers, sandboxes must be started securely and quickly, and multimodal data must be processed efficiently. Facing these new requirements that run through computing, storage, and execution links, Intel combines the powerful computing capabilities, built-in hardware acceleration, and software optimization of Xeon processors to jointly open up the key links of agentic AI operation with Tencent Cloud.

The deeper agentic AI goes into real business, the more precious memory becomes. High concurrency and continuous operation keep pushing up memory demand, and customers want to use limited memory to carry more tasks without sacrificing latency or driving up costs. How to simultaneously meet the dual requirements of density and latency in high-density, high-concurrency business scenarios is a problem that software solutions cannot solve, and it is also the starting point for Tencent Cloud and Intel in advancing memory application innovation.

With the help of Intel® IAA (In-Memory Analytics Accelerator) built into Intel Xeon processors, Tencent Cloud has innovated its memory solution, introducing hardware acceleration for memory compression and decompression to meet customers' requirements for extremely latency-sensitive decompression that must be strictly controllable. Compared with software solutions, after 2M-page decompression is supported by IAA, decompression latency is brought down to the microsecond level, with average time accelerated by 16x and maximum time accelerated by 9x², improving memory utilization while achieving more stable and predictable responses, so that memory is no longer a performance bottleneck for high-density, high-concurrency agentic AI. At present, this solution has been verified by Tencent Cloud and has completed business launch.

For agentic AI to run efficiently, execution environments must also be available on demand. As agentic AI workloads begin to be deployed at scale, another major challenge facing infrastructure is how to create and spin up massive numbers of sandboxes in batches within an extremely short time, and efficiently complete the orchestration and isolation of execution environments. Based on deep collaboration between Intel Xeon processors and Tencent Cloud CubeSandbox, the two parties have jointly built a sandbox foundation featuring high concurrency, extremely fast startup, and stability and reliability.

Leveraging the strong computing performance, flexible scalability, and reliable platform capabilities of Xeon 6+ processors, CubeSandbox can efficiently support high-density sandbox workloads, achieving lower startup latency and higher resource utilization efficiency. This provides a solid foundation for large-scale sandboxed deployment of agent applications. While ensuring service response speed and performance consistency, it further enhances the concurrent sandbox creation capability, enabling every agent application to respond instantly and scale with ease. According to Tencent's actual testing, while meeting the 200-millisecond SLA requirement, CubeSandbox equipped with Xeon 6+ processors can support 350 concurrent sandbox creation requests per machine, an improvement of about 46% over other mainstream test platforms³.

Execution environments must be ready quickly, and agents entering real business scenarios also face another type of challenge: for example, rapidly processing embodied intelligence data in batches. The interaction between agents and the real world has long gone beyond text; video, images, audio, and other data are entering workflows in large volumes, imposing higher requirements on data processing and inference efficiency. In response to this change, Tencent Cloud's multimodal computing engine Xpark applies Intel® AMX (Advanced Matrix Extensions), the built-in AI acceleration engine of Xeon processors, to use CPU resources for small-model inference and lightweight multimodal tasks, thereby improving AI computing throughput and overall resource utilization efficiency. The improvement brought by this optimization is fully demonstrated in the Xpark video processing workflow: with the support of iVTAL (Intel Video Transcode Acceleration Library), video transcoding performance is improved by 1.5x compared with open-source PyAV⁴, and overall video processing efficiency is significantly improved. At present, Xpark has been officially launched and is being used in real business scenarios.

In addition to the above joint innovations with Tencent Cloud, Intel also introduced a storage platform for agentic AI based on Xeon processors. Targeting storage requirements for large capacity, high performance, high energy efficiency, and easy deployment, Intel addresses issues such as the flow and reuse efficiency of KV Cache through high-speed I/O, built-in accelerators such as QAT and DSA, and software-hardware collaborative optimizations such as UINTR+TPAUSE dedicated instructions, enabling storage to move from merely holding data to flowing smoothly and operating efficiently.

Building system-level capabilities: accelerating the scaled deployment of agents

The AI infrastructure landscape is being reshaped, and heterogeneity has become an inevitable trend. Intel has built system-level solutions for customers covering CPU, GPU, storage, and networking, with a product portfolio including Xeon, Ethernet controllers, and the GPU D series. Among them, the Intel® GPU D series (codenamed Crescent Island) is purpose-built for continuously running, memory-intensive AI inference workloads: based on the Xe3P architecture, within a 350-watt power envelope, it can provide users with up to 480 GB of LPDDR5X memory, 1.5 TB/s memory bandwidth, and 1.3 PFLOPS FP8 compute, making large-capacity inference easier to deploy.

To truly translate hardware performance into developer productivity, an open and easy-to-use software ecosystem is equally critical. Intel remains committed to open-source AI software stacks and prioritizes contributions to upstream communities, covering mainstream frameworks such as PyTorch, vLLM, and SGLang, as well as computing and communication libraries such as Triton, oneDNN, and oneCCL, helping mainstream models achieve out-of-the-box usability. In addition, for cross-platform migration of existing code, Intel has introduced an AI Agent based on large language models, combined with professional Skill capabilities, to natively refactor code on the basis of understanding algorithmic intent, and complete the full closed loop of compilation, verification, and performance tuning, enabling cross-architecture migration to move from "running" to "running well."

At the same time, Intel is extending computing power and agent capabilities from the cloud to devices and the edge. End-side applications such as AI PCs equipped with WorkBuddy and Marvis and in-vehicle AI Boxes based on Intel® Core™ Ultra processors were showcased together, vividly presenting the end-side intelligent experience of device-cloud collaboration and bringing agentic AI into thousands of households.

Relying on system-level innovation covering computing power, storage power, software optimization, and more, Intel is using Xeon as the computing hub to build a high-performance intelligent computing foundation for the agentic AI era. In the wave of agents moving from technological exploration to all-scenario productivity, Intel will continue to advance side by side with a broad ecosystem of partners with open and inclusive full-stack platform capabilities, jointly embracing the new opportunities of the intelligent era.
