The UK announced £100 million (equivalent to $134 million) to build an AI biosecurity laboratory, supported by OpenAI, Anthropic and Google DeepMind; the laboratory will use artificial intelligence to identify and monitor biological threats. OpenAI and Anthropic will provide AI model compute of up to £200 million, and the laboratory will also collaborate with Google DeepMind and life sciences company BasecampResearch. The announcement also includes additional funding: an extra £120 million for the AI Safety Institute and £23 million to establish an AI Economics Institute.
