CCTV discusses AI spoofs and derivative works: platforms cleared nearly 13,000 violating videos in September

CCTV News reported that some key online audiovisual platforms published the September disposal results of the special governance campaign against "AI spoof" videos, clearing a total of nearly 13,000 violating videos and handling more than 30 violating accounts. The report said that excellent derivative works are based on understanding of and affection for the original works, and the key lies in the "spoof," which dissolves classics and also harms the cultural foundation. The National Radio and Television Administration supervised platforms to focus on clearing violating videos that use AI to spoof classic film and television works based on the Four Great Classical Novels, historical themes, revolutionary themes, heroic model figures, and other such works, while simultaneously clearing cult animations; starting from February 1, 2026, this governance will be carried out continuously through a regularized, institutionalized long-term mechanism.
