Exin Therapeutics Has an AI Agent Perform Brain Surgery on a Mouse to Treat Epilepsy

Biotech startup Exin Therapeutics says it has had an AI agent complete brain surgery on a mouse with epilepsy. The team used an Anthropic Sonnet model and provided a spreadsheet of 19 gene therapy vectors, an epileptic mouse model, and a robotic arm setup with a camera; the model autonomously selected the drug and brain region, derived coordinates from three papers, and drove the robotic arm to inject 250 nanoliters of the drug, while the craniotomy and suturing were performed by human doctors. The company had originally preferred Anthropic Opus 5.5, but that model refused to carry out the task after detecting biologically related content, and reasoned about the consequences of stopping midway.

IT之家 11 月 1 日消息，专注于下一代神经治疗的生物科技初创公司 Exin Therapeutics 本周声称，该公司已成功让 AI 智能体对一只小鼠进行了脑部手术。
该公司联合创始人兼首席执行官 Gabriel Ocana-Santero 在 X 平台上分享了整个过程，展示了 AI 智能体如何选择基因治疗载体、剂量以及应用的大脑区域。
该团队使用了 Anthropic Sonnet 模型进行手术，给了模型一个电子表格（其中有 19 种基因疗法载体）、一个癫痫小鼠模型、一个带摄像头的机械臂手术装置，以及一个目标：减少癫痫发作。
模型自主选择了药物，选择了脑区，从三篇论文中推导出坐标，然后驱动机械臂给小鼠大脑做手术，同时通过装置摄像头观察注射部位是否有出血，最后注射了 250 纳升药物。
