Mistral Releases Mistral Large 4 Weights: Coding Ability Leads Open-Source Models but Overall Trails Chinese Models

Mistral has released the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Hugging Face. The model, nicknamed Le Chonk, has approximately 1 trillion parameters with 52 billion activated per step, and supports text and image inputs. On Terminal-Bench 4.0, its score rose from 28% in the preview version to 41%, slightly above GLM-5.3's 40%, but on the new version of the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index it scored only 26 points, below the 32 points of DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and GLM-5.3. API pricing is $0.70 per million input tokens and $2.10 per million output tokens, under a modified MIT license; using it as a commercial cloud service requires separate authorization.

  1. Baseten Base Labs: Model ResearchSelected

Baseten Base Labs releases decision models mammoth-1 and elephant-1

Baseten's Base Labs releases two decision models, elephant-1 (9B) and mammoth-1 (27B), both fully fine-tuned from Qwen3.5, with model weights publicly released. mammoth-1 ranks first among 208 models on the Jev Decision Index 0.4 with a score of 71.24, leading the second-place Perplexity Decider v1.2 by 1.8 points; elephant-1 scores 62.65 on that leaderboard and ties for first with d1-ultra on the Artificial Analysis Decision Index with a score of 65. Training used the eighth version of the data mixture with 6.21M samples, and replaced the full-attention layers with a block bidirectional attention mask; under fixed data, this change raised the public 10k-sample score from 44.8 to 48.6.

Meta open-sources 816B-parameter multimodal model Muse Spark Open

On October 15, Meta released the weights of Muse Spark Open, a natively multimodal open-source model with 816B total parameters, 42B activated parameters, and a 1M token context window, targeting coding and long-horizon agent tasks. The model uses a MoE Transformer plus Perception Encoder architecture, can be invoked through API platforms such as Baseten, Fireworks AI, and Groq, with weights downloadable from Hugging Face, Amazon SageMaker AI, Google Cloud Model Garden, and elsewhere; running the NVFP4 version locally requires at least 700GB of VRAM. Meta claims it is the first model of its class that can run on desktop, carried by two Mac Studios equipped with M5 Ultra paired with the MLX framework; the model card shows its Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index at 39, lower than GLM 5.3's 45 and Kimi K3's 44 in the table.
