Jio Platforms, the digital arm of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries, plans to raise up to $3.2 billion through an initial public offering (IPO). If successful, it will be India’s largest IPO to date. The offering could value the company at up to $108.3 billion.
In a stock exchange filing on October 14, Reliance said Jio had set the share price between Rs 1,065 and Rs 1,119. The company plans to issue up to 270 million new shares. At the highest price, it could raise Rs 30,213 crore ($3.2 billion).
The IPO will open on October 21 and close on October 23. Anchor investors can place their bids on October 19.
The IPO does not include an offer for sale (OFS), meaning existing investors cannot sell their shares through the offering. These include Reliance Industries, which holds 66.43% of Jio Platforms, Meta’s affiliate Jaadhu Holdings (9.98%), Google (7.73%) and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (2.31%).
Jio has also reserved shares worth up to Rs 2,500 crore for eligible Reliance shareholders and Rs 500 crore for employees. Employees will get a discount of Rs 54 per share.
Where will Jio use the IPO money?
Jio plans to use up to Rs 27,500 crore of the money raised to repay loans taken by its telecom subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm. This is according to the company’s Red Herring Prospectus.
The remaining money will go towards general business needs. These could include expansion, new investments and day-to-day expenses. Such spending cannot exceed 25% of the total IPO proceeds.
Regulatory risks flagged by the company
Jio has warned that changes in government rules could affect its business. Restrictions on social media use, especially by children, could reduce mobile data consumption. Rules on online gaming could also affect how much data people use. Extra charges on data usage could hurt the business as well.
The company also flagged India’s net neutrality rules in its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP), filed in June 2026. These rules could limit its ability to charge different rates for advanced 5G services, particularly those offered to businesses.
In the same filing, Jio identified risks linked to artificial intelligence (AI). Its AI systems could produce inaccurate or biased results. New AI regulations could increase compliance costs, force changes to its systems or restrict some uses of the technology. Jio warned that its existing safeguards may not be enough to address future risks.
Jio’s position in India’s telecom market
Reliance Jio Infocomm had 508.43 million mobile connections in August. Bharti Airtel had 491.60 million, Vodafone Idea had 199.57 million and BSNL had 93.67 million.
Jio added 2.40 million mobile connections during the month. Airtel added 2.11 million, while Vodafone Idea added 510,000.
Jio also led the broadband market, which includes wired and wireless connections. It had 538.03 million subscriptions, compared with Airtel’s 386.39 million and Vodafone Idea’s 130.88 million.
Financial performance
Jio Platforms reported revenue of Rs 39,170 crore for the quarter ended June 2026, up nearly 12% from a year earlier. Its net profit rose 9% to Rs 7,760 crore.
Its telecom subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm, reported revenue of Rs 34,212 crore and profit after tax of Rs 7,167 crore for the same quarter.
The subsidiary had borrowings of Rs 58,375 crore as of June 30, 2026. This was down from Rs 70,245 crore a year earlier.
Jio sees further upside in ARPU, could rise to Rs 326 per month by FY31
