Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) job postings in India grew nearly 19x between June 2025 and June 2026, according to the latest Indeed data. Postings rose 1,807% year-on-year in June, before moderating to nearly 16x the year-earlier level in July and more than 6x in August.
The growth reflects a shift towards engineers who work directly with customers to solve business problems and deploy AI in real-world environments. Glassdoor India’s Community discussions show that professionals are still seeking clarity on FDE responsibilities, interview processes, required skills, and career prospects.
“FDE may be a new title for many people, but the need behind it is easy to understand: companies want engineers who can sit with a customer, unpack a real problem and make the technology work in practice,” Sashi Kumar, Managing Director, Indeed India, said in a statement.
Glassdoor India listings mention skills such as Python, Java, data engineering, machine learning, generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, AI agents, cloud technologies, APIs, and full-stack development. Employers also seek customer communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
FDE positions appear across technology companies, consulting firms, startups, and specialist AI businesses. The roles span enterprise AI, workflow automation, customer service, infrastructure, and healthcare, with listings in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and remote locations.
Glassdoor reported an average annual base pay of approximately ₹12 lakh for FDEs in India, with a range of ₹9–16 lakh based on 28 submissions, as stated in its January 2026 update. Individual submissions show total pay of ₹22–26 lakh for FDEs with one to three years of experience in Hyderabad and ₹23–27 lakh in Bengaluru. Indeed said its FDE sample is too small to support a reliable median salary.
Demand for AI-related talent is also extending to infrastructure. Indeed Hiring Lab data shows that data centre job postings have nearly doubled over two years and account for 1.3% of all Indian job postings. Software roles make up 28% of data centre postings, while demand also covers industrial engineering, project management and facility operations.
Glassdoor estimated annual pay for data centre engineers and technicians at approximately ₹8–12 lakh, with senior roles reaching ₹16–19 lakh or more in Mumbai and Bengaluru.
