Google is designing its new watches and trackers to be much easier to fix instead of just throwing them away. They’ve made it simple to find repair guides, get expert help, or even chat with an AI to troubleshoot problems. If you're ready for an upgrade, you can trade in your old device or buy a refurbished one to keep tech out of landfills. It’s all about making your gadgets last longer so you don't have to replace them as often.

Our devices should be built to last — and easy to repair when life happens. As we celebrate International Repair Day, we are reflecting on how circularity shapes everything we build. Extending the lifespan of hardware is one of the most meaningful ways to reduce e-waste and maximize the value of our technology.

Here’s a closer look at how we are making repair and reuse more accessible, dependable, and impactful.

Designing devices for repairability: The Pixel Watch & Fitbit Edge

Sustainable hardware begins with thoughtful engineering. For the Pixel Watch 4 and 5, our design and engineering teams established an ambitious repairability roadmap and identified common repair bottlenecks from the earliest stages of development.

The result is an industry-leading modular architecture that rejects the industry standard of heavily glued, unserviceable components. And according to iFixit, it's the most repairable smartwatch out there, earning a 9 out of 10 repairability score.

And this week we expanded our repairable products with the new Fitbit Edge, our first repairable fitness tracker, featuring an internal modular architecture and a replaceable battery designed to extend the life of your device.

Making it easy for you to access expert Pixel support

Great design must be backed by fast, reliable support when you need it. Here are all the ways Pixel customers can extend the life of their devices.

  • Flagship device protection: Pixel Care+ offers eligible users peace of mind with protection against cracks, spills, drops, and more.
  • My Pixel app on-device support: The Support tab in My Pixel is a hub to find solutions. Head there to run diagnostics, chat with an AI agent to troubleshoot an issue, or easily start a repair.
  • Google Store repair information hubs: We launched country-specific repair support pages that feature multiple repair solutions and transparent price estimates, helping you find the best option for their needs.
  • A new, simplified repair process: Our self-service repair program is now integrated with Your Devices, so you can quickly verify your Pixel device details and start a hassle-free repair.
  • Global walk-in repair network: Through our global network of walk-in service centers and authorized providers, you can access quick, certified repairs with genuine parts.
  • Google Store trade-in program: When it's time for an upgrade, our Google Store Trade-In Program makes it easy to exchange eligible devices for store credit, so older devices get safely refurbished or responsibly recycled.

Expanding our certified pre-owned program

The Google Certified Refurbished program keeps high-performing hardware in circulation longer, without compromising on quality or performance.

Every phone in the program is restored with genuine Google parts, updated with the latest Android software, packaged in 100% plastic-free materials, and backed by our full one-year warranty. To make sustainable upgrades even more accessible, we’re expanding the program on two fronts: we added the Pixel 9 series to our U.S. lineup at up to 45% off on the Google Store Online U.S., and we launched certified refurbished devices on the Google Store Online Japan this October.

We'll continue to invest in sustainability, product longevity, and repair to extend the lifespan of our products. And we invite you to join us in this journey: whether you are checking your device’s health via the My Pixel app, exploring repair options, or opting for a Certified Refurbished device.
