Scuba launches with $34M to help teams and AI agents manage business data

by Maria Deutscher

Scuba, the developer of an eponymous productivity service, today announced that it has received $34 million in funding.

The company raised the capital over two rounds. Accel led the first investment and co-led the second with IVP. The firms were joined by BoxGroup, Conviction, Homebrew and Scribble Ventures. Scuba also boasts a long list of angel investors: Its backers include co-founders of Salesforce Inc., Dropbox Inc., Stripe Inc. and other major tech firms.

Scuba, officially Flashback AI Inc., describes its productivity service as a context engine. It enables teams to centrally store the data that workers and artificial intelligence agents use to carry out their work. Scuba says its service helps humans find important information faster while boosting the quality of AI agents’ output.

Scuba was launched last year by Noah Desai Weiss (pictured, left) and Dolapo Falola (right). Desai Weiss was previously the chief product officer of Slack, while Dolapo was the head of engineering at browser developer The Browser Company. The duo earlier worked together at Google LLC.

The first component of Scuba’s platform is a set of features called Capture. It’s accessible through a browser extension and an iPhone app. Customers can use Capture to save information relevant to their work. That includes news articles, chatbot prompt responses and internal team correspondence.

Capture can also ingest multimodal input. A built-in notetaking tool enables users to take audio notes up to 90 minutes in length and have them transcribed. Videos, screenshots and other media files are supported as well.

Scuba organizes uploaded files into thematic repositories called Collections. A marketing team, for example, could maintain a Collection that aggregates information about an advertising campaign. Scuba says that repositories don’t require any manual editing.

The service uses AI to generate a daily report called Briefing that summarizes important changes in a Collection. A Briefing might, for example, point out that the software team has received an unusually large number of bug requests. The feature can also highlight business trends that unfold over time.

Users can make the information in a Collection available to AI tools via an MCP server. Scuba interoperates with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Slack. The company says that the integration removes the need for workers to track down files and manually incorporate them into their AI prompts.

“The frontier models aren’t intelligence bound. They’re context constrained,” said Desai Weiss. “That’s why we’re building Scuba. So people never lose a great idea again.”

Scuba will use the proceeds from its funding rounds to speed up its engineering and go-to-market efforts.
