Beijing has signaled it could approve some purchases of Nvidia’s new workstation chips, The Information reports. Officials asked Alibaba and ByteDance to detail quantities and intended uses.
ByteDance is weighing roughly 1M chips to run AI models. Nvidia reportedly targets late-December shipments and supply of 500,000 chips per quarter for China.
Approval timing and quotas remain unclear, and Washington has not publicly clarified the chip’s export status.
