Google 限制免费 AI Pro 试用:与付费订阅权益不同

Google restricts free AI Pro trials compared to paid subscribers

Free trials are a pretty standard practice across the industry when it comes to subscriptions, and the general understanding is that you’re getting full access to the same subscription you are later set to pay for unless there’s an upfront stipulation about restrictions.

And that’s where things are getting a bit messy with Google’s AI Pro subscription.

There are two specific downsides with a Google One AI Pro trial compared to an actively paid subscription. As mentioned, Antigravity on AI Pro trials leaves out Gemini 4 Argon. Google has a page that specifically puts a trial account in a completely different bucket compared to a paid AI Pro plan, and it treats the trial as a free user with expanded usage limits rather than a full user as @evowizz was one of the first to point out.

The other restriction is YouTube Premium Lite, which is not available for Google One AI Pro trial users until they start paying.

In Google’s defense, this is technically spelled out on support documents. The YouTube Premium Lite restriction, for example, is clearly spelled out as Google says that the “benefit is unavailable until trials of Google AI Pro conclude and you convert to a paid subscription.” But, as far as we can see, this is not disclosed as clearly at the time of sign-up or alongside advertising of the AI Pro trials.

Another loss here is the lack of Google One’s 10% cashback (store credit) perk in the Google Store, which is lacking in free trials. That one is certainly easier to see the reasoning behind, though.

The Google Store touts the Pixel 11’s AI Pro trial as delivering “expanded usage limits in Gemini, access to Gemini in Google apps, and 5 TB of cloud storage,” as well as Health Premium. Nowhere does Google promise the YouTube perks, but the wording around Gemini also lacks any hint at the restriction found in Antigravity. Pages including offer details also lack any mention of this.

As mentioned, Google hands out free, extended trials to AI Pro all over the place. Just a few active examples include:

6 months free with the purchase of a Pixel 11

12 months free with the purchase of a Googlebook

6 months free for select Verizon customers

12 months free with Chromebook Plus or 3 months with any other Chromebook

6 months free with the purchase of a Galaxy Z Fold 8

And that’s just a few examples – you can absolutely find more.

Google explicitly lists all of these trials at their full monthly value (i.e. $119 value for Pixel’s 6-month trial) despite the restricted access that trial users see.

While Google has not addressed the somewhat misleading nature of the AI Pro trial restrictions, one Googler responded to the other headache that exists here – you can’t just press a button to start paying for AI Pro if you’re on a trial. You either have to wait for the trial to end, or reach out to Google for help converting your account.

What do you think of the situation?
