US-based Vertiv has deployed a direct-to-chip high-density liquid cooling system at CapitaLand India Trust’s CLDC Mumbai 01 data centre in Airoli, Navi Mumbai. The project will support 30 megawatts of AI workloads for a hyperscale customer.

Vertiv worked with CapitaLand India Trust to deliver the system using its secondary fluid network (SFN) technology. According to the critical digital infrastructure company, the deployment marks India’s first direct-to-chip high-density liquid cooling installation.

“The CapitaLand Investment project, particularly the collaboration, helped us accelerate the development of our manufacturing and engineering capabilities,” Subhasis Majumdar, Managing Director of Vertiv India, said in a statement.

Data centres are increasingly adopting liquid cooling as AI workloads require more computing power and generate more heat. The company believes the system will help meet the cooling demands of AI infrastructure.

Vertiv’s SFN system carries coolant from a facility’s cooling infrastructure to computer chips through a closed loop. The company manufactures, tests, and commissions the system before it supports live IT workloads. This approach helps data centre operators manage the heat generated by high-density computing systems.

Majumdar added that India’s shift towards high-density liquid cooling for hyperscale and data centre applications presented growth opportunities for the company.

To deliver the project, Vertiv established a production facility to manufacture customised technology loop skids at scale. The company asserted that the facility meets standards designed to protect sensitive cooling components from contamination.

It worked with CapitaLand Investment, which owns and operates CLDC Mumbai, to develop installation and commissioning procedures. These measures aimed to minimise dust entering the technology loop during installation.

After commissioning, Vertiv used its SFN-Tab kits to demonstrate technology-loop balancing. The company then conducted Level 4 testing at the data centre to validate performance before the system went live.

The deployment comes as data centre operators seek cooling systems suited to AI workloads. Traditional air cooling can face limitations as computing density increases, prompting operators to consider liquid-based alternatives.

Vertiv provides power, cooling, and IT infrastructure solutions for data centres and other critical digital applications, operating in more than 130 countries.
