OpenAI Brings Its Models and Codex to Google Cloud

OpenAI will make its AI models and Codex coding agent available through Google Cloud, allowing enterprise customers to access them through Google Cloud’s Model Garden and purchase them using existing cloud spending commitments.

The partnership will bring OpenAI’s models to Google Cloud’s AI platform, alongside support for Codex workflows. Customers can purchase the models through Google Cloud Marketplace, with general availability planned in the coming weeks.

The integration will give businesses access to OpenAI models within their existing Google Cloud environments, backed by Google’s access controls, data governance tools and infrastructure. The companies said this could help enterprises build AI agents and automate software development and other business workflows, including in regulated industries.

“Google Cloud is a leading platform for developers and businesses building AI agents, writing software, and putting AI to work,” said Greg Brockman, President and co-founder of OpenAI.

“This partnership is an important step in making our most capable models and Codex available where customers are already building, giving them even more choice in how they use frontier AI as we grow the agentic ecosystem together,” he added.

Google Cloud customers with existing spending commitments will be able to use those commitments to pay for OpenAI models through the marketplace. This could allow enterprises to access the models within their existing cloud procurement arrangements.

The companies also plan to make OpenAI models available through Google Antigravity, Google’s agent-based development platform, and Gemini Agent. These integrations are expected to give developers and enterprises more options when selecting models for different tasks.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the company wanted to give customers a broader selection of models.

“We are focused on giving customers a broad selection of models, including those from OpenAI, so they can choose the right model for any given job, helping to deliver optimal quality and lower costs,” Kurian said.

Google Cloud said OpenAI models would run with its enterprise security and governance controls. Customer prompts, context and outputs will remain within their designated data perimeter and will not be used to train foundation models, according to Google. Zero data retention options are expected to be introduced later.

The announcement also expands OpenAI’s distribution across cloud providers as it seeks to reach more enterprise customers. Microsoft remains OpenAI’s primary cloud partner, but the companies amended their partnership in April to allow OpenAI to serve its products across other cloud providers.

Under the revised agreement, Microsoft retained its position as OpenAI’s primary cloud partner, with OpenAI products continuing to ship first on Azure unless Microsoft cannot or chooses not to support the required capabilities.
