AI 账单需要一张组织架构图
The AI bill needs an org chart

Hiring an employee requires a budget, an approval chain, and an HR record. By the time that person starts work, the company knows which team they belong to. An AI agent can start spending with a prompt and an API key, without an equivalent process establishing who is accountable. The organization gets a new consumer of paid services without necessarily making a decision about who owns the cost.In a single task, an agent can call multiple model providers, a search service and a SaaS tool. Its cost changes with its behavior: how often it retries, how long it loops, which model it chooses or which tool it calls. Two agents built from the same template can end the month with very different costs.

The builder is not automatically the owner. An engineer can move teams while an agent keeps running for the department that requested it. The bill will keep arriving, even if the organization's record of responsibility has fallen behind.Companies already struggle with a simpler version of this problem among their employees. A marketer drafts a campaign with a model, a sales rep runs account research and an engineer uses a coding assistant. Their usage appears across several vendors, under different accounts, seats and keys. Finance can see the charges without being able to assign them to the teams whose work generated them.Cloud cost allocation grew around resources that someone deployed. A resource belonged to a service, the service had an owner, and tags carried that relationship into the bill. When an employee opens an AI tool, there may be no new server or service to tag. Product and workload attribution still matter for unit economics, but they do not by themselves tell finance which department is responsible for that employee's usage. The part I find remarkable is how much of the answer companies already maintain elsewhere. Security and IT connect identity records to HR systems because access and payroll depend on knowing who works where. When someone joins, changes teams or leaves, those records are updated. Finance needs to use that organizational information to assign spending, rather than ask someone to recreate it in every vendor's console. An identity catalog connects a spending identity to its accountable person and team. Before that mapping can work, the different footprints on vendor bills, such as a login, a license or an API key, have to be resolved to the person or agent behind them. The catalog then places that identity within the organization.Without that connection, an administrator ends up maintaining department groups at one vendor, another set at the next, and a spreadsheet to reconcile them. Each copy requires attention when the organization changes. A team transfer becomes a ticket or a manual rule change in several places. The total on the invoice can remain accurate while the departmental allocation falls out of date.Finance should be able to read the updated organizational record and have costs follow an employee to their new team automatically. For agents, the equivalent source is the ownership record created when they are registered and approved. That record needs to reflect changes in the agent's accountable owner or the team responsible for its costs.Agent identities can multiply much faster than a workforce that grows through hiring approvals, with one person responsible for several of them. Maintaining separate ownership lists at every vendor will not keep pace.
